My SIL gave us the Babywise books when she found out we were preggos last Sept and we've been 'on the system' for the last three weeks (since we brought James home) and it seems to be working...so far. *keeps her fingers crossed*

Just thought I'd pop on by and say hello.:)

Hi! Welcome to Babywise! I went back and read most of the discussion you sparked about BF vs FF - Whew....it blows my mind to think that this time last year I had NO idea that there were various "parenting styles" out there. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to try BF, but if it didn't work - I wasn't going to beat myself up over it. (Plus no one in my family ever breastfed, so I didn't have any support) My son will be 10 mos old on Sunday (boy time goes by so fast with a baby - you'll see!) and he is still going strong with the BF. I plan to start weaning him after he is a year old ( ... )

No co-sleepers here either! dixiechicken24 April 21 2004, 13:04:31 UTC
We don't co-sleep either, though James DOES sleep in a bassinette in o ur bedroom. The thought of co-sleeping really creeped me out, tbh, because I was not only afraid of squashing the baby, but because of the risk of SIDS (we have a heavy comforter I use all year round because I am cold even when it's like 80 degrees out) and because our cat sleeps in the bed with us and I didn't want her to feel like any of her personal territory was being intruded on. Or at least I wanted to intrude on as little of her territory as possible. :)

We also kept Samuel in our room in a bassinet until he was 8 or 9 weeks old. At that point he was making all kinds of noises on his sleep so we felt it was time (so we could sleep!), plus, he started to bang his feet up against the sides when he would thrash out of his swaddle. He took to his crib right away!

Hi and welcome to the community! I started this community because I started Babywise when my son was a week old and it has been so great. He is 7 months old now and sleeps 12 hours at night and takes great naps. As soon as I lay him down and tuck him in, his eyes roll back and he's out like a light! I attribute everything to babywise. Routines are so important. I really like the philosophy behind the book that teaching your baby to comfort themselves will reap such benefits when they are older ( ... )
