Have any of you read the book Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder? It's about Dr. Paul Farmer, and it is a fucking amazing book. I'm not even done reading it and I'm about to move to Haiti ( Read more... )

If you are only planning on going for a month then i could join you. I thought you were thinking of doing a few months, like 8 weeks. I could somehow find away to get a month of, i think. Or at least go down for 2 weeks with you. Or if i get omnigame funded i could go the whole time!

I can understand how you feel. I think attempting do anything is great and make me proud of you but i can also see it being hard because of the reasons you gave. Heck i living on electricity (i really don't have anything that doesn't use it). I was just wondering. Did you look into the peacecore? they might have some little things that can be done and then you would be joining a group that has experience in helping?

I'm pretty sure the Peace Corps is like AmeriCorps, they want a lengthy commitment. That is what makes its members unique. They are really dedicated and it in for the long haul, not just for a few uncomfy weeks. Anyone can handle a few weeks. I looked into it several times in the past, but I didn't see any options less than 2 years I think. Or at least one year, and I already did one for AmeriCorps, as you know. Not lookin for another really long service term, I don't want to take a break from school
