But still... it's better than anything I've seen on the West Coast. San Fransisco has a massive population for it's size (being that it's not much bigger than Santa Barbara itself) and it's tourist industry is rather impressive. But as much as I love the Bay Area... it's transit pales in comparison, and the traffic there is almost as bad as L.A.
I've not really been to Seattle, which (from what I've heard) is one of the only cities this side of the Rockies that's made a decent attempt at civic design. But I'd wager it's still probably not that functional in terms of meeting it's populations needs.
It's possible that this is the reason that NY is generally considered one off the only mega-cities in America.
