Alright so, piratepianist had challenged people to write an AU where Pepper winds up being in Afghanistan with Tony when all the crazy explosions happen. ebony_twist posted hers a few days ago and it's totally kick-ass. I had started this but I figured I'd post it, too ( Read more... )

YAY! You did my challenge, too! :DDD

Incredible beginning! I loved the writing style, too. It reminds me of my own, only yours rocks more. ;)

You had a lot of awesome lines and conversations in here, too. I loved Happy being all guilty; that made me giggle. Actually, the whole thing did, but I do feel sad for Pepper's birthday. He should definately make it up to her once they get back. Runt olives and speechlessness FTW!! XD

Definately a great intro for you to the fanfic aspect of the community. Write more when you can; no rush! You can't rush creative genius! :D

Your challenge had me thinking. I still haven't decided on what's going to happen to Pepper. I was discussing it with a friend of mine and going back and forth with her being apprehended or not but I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I know it's not all that crazy and exciting yet but that will come with the next part. I appreciate all the kind words of encouragement, too ♥

As morbid as this sounds, if I had written it, I thought they might of, *ahem*, taking advantage of Pepper for a time before putting her back in with Tony and Yinsen. Gives Tony all the more reason to comfort Pepper, and it fuels his anger and determination to get out. I'm sure you'll think of something to do, so don't fret! Can't wait for the next installment but again - take your time. :)

Between you and me, I had considered the possibility of them not taking her at all, which would make Pepper feel all the more guilty when he'd gone missing.

Poor Pepper, though. I mean no matter what it is, it's a pretty crappy deal to wind up with. And aw, thank you. ♥

Hm, this is a nice build-up to what we all know is coming. Would love to see more of this ;)

Also, this line is about when I fell in love here: He reminds her of the boy who used to throw sand in her hair.

Oh, Tony... XD

I wanted to sort of ease into it, sort of show how things were before things get bad.

I think every girl remembers that boy, haha. I know I do, and Tony was definitely that little boy in the sandbox. I just have a feeling. :)

This is excellent -- a very real, true-to-character spin on the whole scene. You've got the voices nailed (I loved Pepper's consternation and Stark's seeming ignorance of her discomfort) and it's always nice seeing Rhodey's face thrown into a fic (especially when he's pouting.) I'm excited to read the subsequent chapters.

Thanks!

Goodness, that's really a relief to hear and I'm so glad you think so. I'll credit having seen the movie 5 times or so for that. It's good to really let that shine through because things change so significantly after Afghanistan for them. I love Rhodey a lot, the three of them needed more screen time together, I think. I really appreciate the great comment, too. I'm not sure which direction I want to take the fic, it can play out a few different ways, but I'm definitely starting on that chapter soon!
