I have Vitamin D supplements all set to take in addition to my daily multi-vitamin. I don't take them in the summer because I'm outside so much.

Yes, that's the best way to do it. In his book, Dr. Holick reports finding at least 5 and signs of perhaps 10 phytoproducts (that is, substances created by exposure to sunlight) in the human body. If you're just taking vitamin D, you're probably not getting the health benefit of these other things.

That's a lot. You need to make sure you're ingesting enough calcium. Another detail from the book: if you have too much vitamin D and not enough calcium, your body starts removing calcium from your bones.
