The truth was, when Mercedes had gotten the invite to the reunion and mentioned it to him in passing, Matt had been just a little hurt that he was left off the list. Granted, he wasn't in the graduating class of doom, and he hadn't been involved in the major falling out that had occurred, but he had lost touch with almost all of his friends after college took him from Austin, Texas, to California, where he played football with Shane, a former teammate from McKinley who would later marry Mercedes Jones, bringing her back into Matt's life in a surprising turn of events ( ... )

It was probably a miracle Mike didn't barf in the squashing hug his old friend had offered him. To be fair, though, he was in a haze of shocked confusion and he could honestly not even recall the amount of years it had been since he last saw Matt. Many... too many. A lot of many's. He hugged him back, but as soon as it was over, he just proceeded to gape at Matt as he tried to fight through the groggy hungover fog in his head. One bender too many maybe, and it was like he couldn't get his brain to work. Things were just a mess right now with Sam gone back to Boston and Blaine in hospital. At least some good news had come with Nick being found - rightfully - not guilty and he was free now to try and pick up the pieces of his life ( ... )

Matt's expression could only be described as WTF when Mike looked at him. Those eyes were eyes that Matt knew all too well, and even after all this time, he recognized his friend's expression. "Dude," he said calmly. "What's wrong? And what have you been drinking, because seriously, Mike? You look like you're still half drunk." Some friendships lasted a short time and were over. Others could go for years without contact, and pretty much pick right back up where they'd left off. Matt found himself thinking (or at least very strongly hoping) that his friendship with Mike would be the latter.

Shaking his head, Matt started to respond to Mike's not-quite-questions, but before he could, he was getting poked, and his brow knit as he glared at his friend. "Dude, what the hell are you doing?" he asked, fully prepared to grab Mike's hand and throw it off track if the other guy wanted to poke him again. "Mikey, are you okay?"

Maybe he was still half-drunk, and that was why Mike's brain didn't seem to want to fathom Matt's presence. As it was, he knew it was a pretty heavy bender, and he was fucking suffering for it this morning. He made sure not to bring anything back to Kurt's place with Kurt's whole history and continuous struggle with drugs. The poor dude still had epic cravings and was on medication to fight them, but it wasn't like Mike was going to end up like Kurt. It was just one night and he needed to turn his brain off from working, and it must have worked, because he couldn't remember a fucking thing he did last night ( ... )
