Erik's IM conversations aren't the most standard. Everytime i said something, another image popped up in the box where he says something, and that box is actually a snapshot of the conversation. Are you getting this? eg. I say: wtf is this? and Erik sends out a box with whatever the conversation looked like right after i said "wtf is this?" Erik ( Read more... )

Is it possible to go on living if one does not have these mechanisms of self reaffirmation and recognition? It would be like being placed in solitary confinement. Anyone attempting to excercise this so-called "power" could possibly destroy himself or herself. You become a citizen of your own territory, one which no one shares.
What I'm trying to say is this, you can't just say "fuck the world and what is in it, I'm going to run off and create my own" In the process you've described above, one increasingly becomes...what's the word?...mentally imbalanced. The human being is fragile. He or she is not built to be alone. That is why he feels, sees, tastes, and what have you....

Of course, there is a danger of me here being misunderstood. I am by no means advocating alienation or antisocialism. Nor am I ready to fully accept the Hegelian dialectic of Self/Other in order to realize consciousness. My point borders not so much on strategy (strategy would involve how to actually go about doing things) but on a much more preliminary stage- the subversion of identity regimes. I believe it is possible to overhaul hegemonies and to 'deploy' rules in ones own favor. This does not involve "fucking the world" in order to live like a hermit (although I will not dismiss such a model, yet) but rather, understanding the discursive structure of your environment, and playing the field, strong and free from the Hegemony's attempt at (instilling in one) arbitrary resentment or guilt.
