The Magic of Fursuiting!

Mar 01, 2010 10:56

So when I first got into the fandom, the main and primary force that was driving my desire was Fursuiting. It caught my eye immediately upon discovery of furry and I just KNEW that I had to do this. First of all, I was thinking, why on earth do I want to do this SO BADLY!? This couldn’t be MORE out of character of me. I’ve never been one that ( Read more... )

Its great that you've had such a similar experience in regards to how much it's kind of... out of character for you as a person?

I really really had that same experience. Never could have saw myself doing what I do now in fursuit. It's really theraputic and actually does a lot for ones confidence, I think!

I think you're right in a lot of regards. It's really quite hard to stand out at a convention, quite hard to do anything that people are going to appreciate or recognize. But if you aren't looking for that in the first place, it makes things a lot easier. I don't know. My outlook on suiting has never really contained much of a "goal". Its more kind of an escape from the normal reality (even if reality at a furry con is way different than reality of normal life.. hehe)

Still, Im glad you do enjoy conventions. Would be sad not to be able to see you there anymore!

Yeah the parallels that you and Jil brought up are quite interesting! I can really see the similarities between my experiences and someone doing something up on stage. I have no doubt you would probably have a similar experience if went out in a fursuit :)

I don't have NEARLY the amount of fursuiting experience that you have, Bacon, but I can relate to the observations you made here. My first suiting experience occurred last year at FCN, and I had the privilege of having my debut with a fairly well-established character.

Like you said, wearing the suit truly is a transformative experience. You can't help but to become the character that you're wearing. At first, I probably tried to over-think about what my character would do...like you said, keeping in my own headspace. I'm not sure I spent long enough in the suit for me to completely "lose myself in the character" (after all, it was my very first suiting venture), but if anything came out of that experience, it was the overwhelming feeling of wanting to do it more. I LOVE FURSUITING!

I have absolutely no idea how things will be once I get my first suit (which should be ready by this year's FCN)...but I'm looking forward to it. ^.^

That's awesome! I really can't wait to see your suit :)

I think you'll have a similar experience. If I had advice to give it would be what you already probably gleaned from this... don't overthink what your character would do and just let go!
