All I Post Is Movie Entries

Jan 08, 2012 08:50

A more formal break down of all the movies I saw in theatres this year, and a more or less precise ranking of the order in which I liked them. If this looks different than my previous list it's because I probably fudged a little to include movies that annoyed me more than worse movies I saw (The Tree of Life, Cave of Forgotten Dreams), and I ( Read more... )

Oh, that's a bummer--it was a good name! (I miss it like I miss subject lines in these comments) Either way, welcome back!

i just saw dragon tattoo, and i suspect most of your problems with it (and mine, for that matter) are problems with the book as well. fincher makes dull stuff (sorting through old photos, facebook, etc.) about as interesting as they're gonna be.

he strikes me as an old fashioned filmmaker, like robert wise or something. give him good subject matter and he'll make a good movie. very un-auteur-like.

yeah i liked the investigation aspect, especially in the second half, which makes me think i might like Zodiac if i rewatched it. i think fincher has a problem with people, though, and that is part of what makes the movie not quite work for me. the source material likely doesn't help either.

would like to see him make a movie about working people that could play on his detachment better? maybe Zodiac does that?

i think his icy cool style works best in the social network. i loved that movie! my favorite movie of 2010!

it felt too much like every biopic about rich eccentric guys since citizen kane to me -- he's kind of a jerk, but kind of an iconoclast! i walked away feeling like it was at least as enamored with his I Do What I Want douchebaggery as it was indicting of it. also its pukey green color scheme i found really ugly.

I really like the categories you use to sort movies! And yeah, I was wondering about the journal deletion thing, but I see it's explained to cb up there.

(good luck on your quest for 100.)

i have to strongly disagree with you on tron: legacy. it definitely deserves to be slotted as "getting toward abysmal."

i loved the light suits and the look of the movie quite a lot.

also i hate the original, so i was pleasantly surprised that it was not nearly as bad.

i enjoyed the original, actually. it was cheezy and ridiculous, but i liked that about it. a bit too long, but not horrible. the new one felt forced and seemed to be taking itself too seriously.

my problem with the original is that it's super boring to look at. i mean, it's got the visual effects going, some of which are still pretty interesting, but the camera placement/movement is like sub-Star Wars level inert.

hey, i guess too bad about tintin? never managed to get that excited for it, spielberg/edgar wright combo notwithstanding.

watched attack the block a few weeks ago and i hope that dude makes another, better movie soon.

tintin had a couple of pretty awesome parts, and then a whole lot of spielberg-y, awful attempts at humor.

i really liked the carpenter type parts of attack the block a lot, but i could never really shake the feeling that the movie was obviously made by a white dude.
