So, I have a friend that I sorta RP with (it helps hash out what happens in a FanFic world we write). Now, I'm pretty easy going, and, normally in this situation, if I don't like a thing that keeps cropping up, I can always leave. This time it's harder because this is teetering on the edge of bandom and in a bandom where nobody seems to RP or write

Might be time to branch out since they aren't improving their behavior. Does acting like they didn't say the given thing/changing topics work? Like not engaging them when they try to start up the politics/patronizing.

Wish I could. But the rest of the fandom is preoccupied with posting pictures of the band and loudly object to any fic that doesn't depict them as saints and don't get the idea of RP at all, thinking its nigh-satanic.

Honestly, the only thing that has worked is going "Nope! New topic!" and offering up videos of baby otters or food tutorials. Somedays, I let her get it off her chest and then try to comfort her while making it clear as crystal that, while it kills me to see a friend distressed, I do NOT agree with her spin on the subject, now here's a kitten giving a capybara a back rub and a video on how to make dessert sushi out of berries and mango.
