Not so much Bad RP as two STFUs

Still reeling from this weekend. Launch game of a Weird West Horror LARP and highly enjoyable, but I can't get over THESE two clowns in the development discussion.

To Assclown #1: Okay, so I dunno how you do stuff in your other LARPs, but it isn't how its done here. The Freemasons are a real world secret society. They exist and they have real secrets and real beliefs. I don't know if any players in this LARP are Masons, but I do know that none of the people wanting to participate in this secret society are. We don't have any access to their knowledge, so we would be winging it. No, the winging it part isn't why we want to create our own lore, symbols, and rites. It's the fact that if there IS a Mason playing or someday playing this game, us playing Masons with no knowledge of the inner workings of the order would be metaphorically saying "your beliefs and traditions are nothing but toys to us, a prop for our games. They mean nothing." No, it's not like demanding that all wizards study Wicca and neopaganism before playing a wizard. For one, none of those faiths are outright kept secret to outsiders. For another, this game wants to be able to say that we strive to not be utter assholes. For a third thing, guess what? Nobody is demanding you join the society.

To Assclown #2:

Look, whoever you are: Yeah, we're striving to not be utter assholes. We rewrote history to make things like racism and sexism a little less pervasive. We agreed that if we started delving into problematic territory, like racism and sexism, we would do our best to check in with all parties and make sure everyone was emotionally and psychologically okay. It's a horror game, shit happens. But, you loudly object to the fact that someone was setting up an in-game brothel and hiring IG hookers, or at least calling them such (really? you want us to make up new euphemisms from a time period where EVERYTHING was a euphemism?). Then you start demanding more realism with etiquette by talking about all the ways to be offensive back in the day. Did you miss the part about not wanting to be utter assholes? If you want that much realism in a LARP, Gettysburg isn't that far away.

To be fair, if these people were at the LARP, they behaved pretty well. I've just been so annoyed by those two things and needed it off my chest.
