Could you perhaps send a copy of your receipt from the computer and the power cord to someone online? Rather than go through the store? I avoid Apple so I'm not sure, but they would have an online help section, I would think.
I'm going to look and see if it is on my credit card. Unfortunately, if I put it on my debit card, I won't have access as I closed that bank account six months ago. I don't remember which one I put it on. But I do have my Apple receipt.
Yup. Turns out that was exactly the issue. Whoever entered the serial number into their system originally put it in the place of the number for my old computer rather than a new space. So when they looked it up, it was coming up as purchased on the date I purchased my previous computer.
Chances are good the employee was confused. Check to see when your computer thinks it was made. Click on the apple in the upper left-hand corner, then look at "About this Mac". If you ordered it in late 2014, it would be unlikely to be a 2013 model. Then contact Apple and explain the situation, they have good online support.
