It's weird, because until recently I didn't even know who the Smith's or Morrissey were. When I found an old childhood friend on myspace a few years ago I discovered she was CRAZY about them. Along with like, 99% of the Latino population in L.A., apparently. :D It's a really odd phenomena! And I have to admit I dug Morrissey's performance at Coachella last year. It was fun being part of his crowd even though the only song I knew the words to was How Soon is Now?, and the fact that he walked off stage briefly in the middle of the set because he couldn't stand the smell of cooked meat coming from the concession stands!
lol Yeah. My husband used to be really into them as a teenager. I am actually not that sure that The Smiths had that big of an influence on pop music today; not in any audible way I can distinguish. Pop would probably be a lot better if it did. (Is it me or is the music on the radio total shit these days? It seemed like it was getting a lot better for a while.) A lot of people list them as an influence, though.
