He can hear sirens in the distance. At least, that's what it sounds like to him. They could be nearby for all he knew.
The scene before him seems unreal. But no matter how much he pinches himself, he wont wake up.
This is reality. A reality full of spilled blood, shocked voices from bystanders, and approaching sirens.
The car, he realized, didn't have a license plate. Then that would mean we could find it easily.
But what if...?
A coughing sound gets his attention. "Yo...Yosuke..."
"I-I'm here!"
An arm is shakily raised and Yosuke gently holds its bloody hand. "Everything's gonna be okay, Partner. Trust me!"
Souji smiles but it quickly becomes a grimance as pain wracks through him.
"Souji!" Dojima-san has arrived and his face is a mix anger, shock, and sadness. No, not again..."Hanamura, what happened here?" he barked ( ... )

Yosuke's voice died in his throat as he entered the room. Their leader, their fearless leader, is lying on a hospital bed surrounded by tubes and machines displaying his vital status. His eyes are closed and he doesn't stir when Yukiko calls his name. His chest rising and falling and the beeping machines are the only proof that he's alive.
Rise sobs and attempts to rush at his side but is held back by Chie.
"Damn it, why him?" Kanji voices the thought that was all in their minds.
"Sensei..." said Teddie sadly.
Yosuke steps closer to the bed so he's by Souji's side again, "Hey Partner. Can you hear me?"
To their surprise, Souji stirs this time. Grey eyes wince at the bright light of the hospital room.
"S-senpai!" Rise smiles through the tears. He's gonna make it after all...Souji lifts his arm again. "Y...Yosuke ( ... )

"Dad?" She gets up and starts to walk towards him, eager for news. On the couch, Adachi jerks awake, still feeling disappointed that the little girl didn't like his cabbage casserole.
He heard his boss sigh, "What are you doing not in bed?"
"I want to know how Big Bro is. He's okay, right?" No answer. "Dad...?"
"I'm sorry, Nanako. Your Big Bro wont be coming home."

Yosuke found him falling asleep later that night.
He dreamed that he was sitting in a moving limo. Sitting across from him was a suited man with a long nose. Next to him was a blonde-haired woman dressed in blue and holding a very large tome. Both had somber expressions on their faces.
"It would appear that your friend's journey unexpectedly got cut off short," the long nosed man says, "however, he chose you to continue his journey for the truth in his place."
"He has?" Yosuke asks, confused. What does that mean?"By doing so, you now inherit the Wild Card and the Persona ( ... )

I love your attention to the little details :) That moment with Sayoko losing yet another patient/friend made me wibble ;~; And seconds later the thought of Adachi's cabbage casserole had me laughing...only to be crushed again by poor Nanako :'(

it was a great tie in and very fitting
you did quite well on this fic, kudos.
a part of me secretly wants a continuation from this
with a "certain person" shoving the death of Souji into their faces at the time of judgement.
or a investigation team meeting a year later at his time of death. this fic is quite interesting to work off of.
