Whispers went up around the auditorium. From behind the curtain, she could see the announcer grow increasingly nervous.
This was absolutely not going to happen. She'd done her best, and she would--
A shove from behind sent her tripping forward, and she almost fell out onto the stage. She managed to save herself and turn it into a vaguely off-balance walk, but really, did it matter how she was walking at this point?

Gasps and whistles, the same as for the other girls, but she could feel her face burning hot. She kept her gaze looking firmly at the boards beneath her feet. Keep walking, Naoto.She stepped past Ms Kashiwagi first, who muttered something completely unrepeatable at her; then Hanako, who snorted back a laugh. Next was Chie, and in her peripheral vision she could see the girl shifting slightly from one foot to another, as if in a battle stance. And man, he had done his checking out for the day. Holy crap.
Seriously, he'd never thought she'd actually do it. It was a great thought when Teddie suggested it - if kind of creepy coming from something that spent half its time as a fuzzy bear - but seriously, NaotoIt had made his whole year, that was for sure. He figured it might've cleared up his doubts too, judging by the physical response that made him run out the hall in the first place. Shit, that was embarrassing. The nosebleed was no better. But he couldn't do much about it, once he saw Naoto in that suit. She was slim, but she curved much more than he would've guessed - not that he'd really expected much of anything. It'd crossed his mind more than once before, of course, but the nosebleed had always kicked in before he ( ... )

Kanji blinked. "Woah." Then he caught himself. Oh crap! "Wait...I didn't mean - I mean, you should've won, right? You totally had it going..."
"Please," Naoto murmured, and sighed. "I-I really don't want to think about it. My victory was absurd, as was the whole charade. I felt ridiculous." She was blushing again, but looking slightly ashamed this time. "It was completely inappropriate."
This was seriously confusing. Naoto should be stoked about winning! He would've had his money on Rise, if anyone. Then he stopped, and thought a little harder. That fricking cross-dressing pageant...he'd never felt more uncomfortable in his life (except around Naoto, a voice in the back of his mind reminded him). Though he had to admit, some small part of him had been kinda bummed when Teddie took the crown--- ( ... )
