The night was dark and pregnant with silence, interrupted by a pitiful knock on the door of the Dojima residence. There Kanji Tatsumi stood, a man deflated, cradled in his ungainly hands a plastic bag. In that bag, were his dreams, the stuff of his nightmares and nocturnal emissions alike. His muse. His devil. His mistress. In that bag was the penguin animal cracker.

"I found it, Senpai." He spoke softly, eyes cast downward.
"Come up to my room," said Souji.

With the gentle touch of an artisan, Kanji removed his prize, setting it atop a delicately flowered saucer of bone china he kept in his jacket pocket, just for this moment. The confection was matchless, chipless, with the daintiest of beaks and sweetest curve of flightless wing. He watched it soberly from under the flicker of Souji's bedroom light, hunched over on the sofa as if in an existential fog.

"I feel nothing. All this time, all this searching and pain, and I feel nothing."

"Shhhh," said Souji, who unzipped his pants.
