The boy had a spark in his eyes that Dojima faintly recognized. It spoke volumes of big dreams waiting to be attained, a sense of nobility and purposed just begging to be fulfilled. He looked like he was only a few years out of high school, but there was an air of maturity about him that commanded respect from his peers.
Not that Dojima considered himself the guy's peer. He had at least a good twenty years on him, he suspected, and the thought saddened him more than he'd expected. Perhaps it was because, in Akihiko Sanada, Dojima saw little glimpses of himself.
"Thanks," he said a little gruffly as the fair-haired rookie handed the detective his first of many cups of coffee that morning. "D-Dojima-san, please..." Akihiko breathed, watching the older cop with a heady expression. There was that tingle again, only this time it shot from Dojima's ears down his spine like a current and through his legs, right through to the tips of his toes. "D-Dojima-san, I can't..." the younger cop continued, licking his lower lip, willing to do anything to earn his spot on the force. "I-I can't hold on much l-longer.. please?" He wasn't sure of the game Dojima and his boys played here in Inaba, but he was determined to show that he could keep up with them ( ... )
