Souji saw him before Dojima could say anything. His eyes slowly widened until Dojima briefly worried about whether they'd actually stay in their sockets or not, and he let out a funny little half-whimper, half-grunt.

Dojima didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He wondered if he could do both at the same time.

"Kanji," he heard Souji whisper. What the point of whispering was, Dojima didn't know, but then again, all he really had the peace of mind to do at that moment was stare and will himself to wake up. "Kanji. Kanji!"

"What?!" Souji slowly pointed a shaky finger in Dojima's direction, and Tatsumi's harshly narrowed eyes followed it ( ... )

He wasn't prepared to deal with the two boys sitting awkwardly on the floor in front of him, but Dojima would do his best.

Souji kept his eyes trained on the floor - apparently, the electric bill was incredibly fascinating - but Tatsumi was looking up at him with crossed arms and a "fuck you" glare. Unfortunately, the persistent blush on the apples of his cheeks ruined the attitude he was shooting for.

"So," Dojima heard himself say, cigarette dangling precariously. "You two are..."

"Yeah. We're... yeah," Souji replied.

"How long?"

They looked at each other quizzically. "What, like three months maybe?" Tatsumi offered. Souji shrugged and nodded.

"About that, yeah. Maybe a little more."

"Seriously? We been... that long, huh?"

"Yeah."

"Damn."

"Yeah."

"Okay, enough," Dojima ordered, tapping his ashes into an empty coffee mug. "I need to ask you some questions."

"Ask away."

"Not you, Souji. HimTatsumi froze in place, eyes bulging. "I- huh? I didn't do nothin ( ... )

They just smiled for a few seconds, comfortable in their silence, the fact that they'd been caught literally with their pants down momentarily forgotten. Dojima hated to interrupt, but it was his job to say what had to be said, whether he liked it or not.

"So, here are the rules, you two," he began. The boys snapped to attention like military recruits. "Rule one. What you do on your own time is yours. But if I'm home, and you're upstairs, the door stays open. Rule two. You will use protection. I don't care if your - what are you kids calling it nowadays - your junk has never seen the light of day before this started, you will use a condom. Also, you'll do it in a bed or somewhere similar. You will not do it anywhere that my seven-year-old daughter might eat her breakfast. Rule three." Dojima lifted his hand and pointed it directly between Tatsumi's eyes. "If you hurt him, I will hurt you. He is my family. I'll take this time to remind you that I am a police officer, and I do carry a gun. Not a threat. Just ( ... )

“No problem.”

Souji looked up and beamed at him, and Dojima just hoped that his talk with Nanako would go as well once she started dating.

Right, he thought to himself, wincing as images of Souji and Tatsumi filled his brain. If I ever let her date after seeing that.

"Well, if I ship her off to boarding school for the rest of her life," he muttered as he stepped outside for another cigarette, "I'll let her know that she's got her 'big bro' to thank."
