He had just nodded, giving her permission to stay (silently praying that his uncle didn't find out about this), and her smile had almost masked the red that was still in her cheeks.

"Oh, there's one more thing!" she said, reaching into the small bag she had taken his present out of. "Here!" She pulled out a bottle of sake, and his stomach dropped.
"Are you sure that's such a good idea...?" He was hesitant to actually mention the King's Game, but it was very present in the back of his mind.
"Oh, the inn won't notice one bottle going missing. I made sure that nobody saw me," she replied, completely missing the point of his concern.
He really didn't want a repeat of that incident (and that stuff had been non-alcoholic in the first place!), so he tried again. "My uncle is a detective, and we're underage," he pointed out.

"Oh, I hadn't even thought about that." She looked so upset, he almost wished he had never mentioned it. "I just...wanted to celebrate with you. Make tonight something special."
Ah. So it was more of her worrying about

Judging by the birds outside, it wasn't raining (his ears still listened for that soft whisper against his windows automatically). It also seemed to be morning, though he was trying his best to cling to sleep. There was a strange taste in his mouth and his head throbbed slightly when he moved, but there was something unpleasant digging into his back. It was also really cold, his skin prickling. He shivered and curled up closer to the warmth lying next to him
