Magic Bullet OR Back, And To The Left anonymous July 10 2009, 00:07:24 UTC
No one will get this except for other history/conspiracy nerds. And I don't care.
-------------------------------------------

Tohru Adachi sat in the sixth floor of the Okina City book depository, fondling the catch on his Mannlicher-Carcano. He knew the rifle was a piece of shit, that was the point. He wasn’t going to shoot anyone with it, just drop it off by the window (he’d be sure to keep his prints off of the barrel - thank you, rubber gloves) and be down in the employee break room, calmly drinking a Coke, before the city police even knew what had happened.

He got out his binoculars and peered out the window, across the plaza and down to the Grassy Knoll. Sure enough, Souji was there, hunched behind the fence and holding a high-caliber rifle. He looked about as ready as anyone could be. Shifting his spyglasses slightly, he scanned the triple underpass nearby. Dojima was there as planned, smoking a cigarette and hiding a small rifle behind his jacket. He nodded in Adachi’s direction.

It’s go time.Adachi’s watch clicked ( ... )

Huh, interesting mix, anon. Although I have to ask - why Kanji as Jack Ruby? The "punk kid" element?

Also - although I caught your reference immediately, all I could think of was the Simpsons' parody/mockery of "JFK" with the countless repetition of "back, and to the left". :-)

Aha, thank you! I'm glad someone appreciated it.

That's why I did the 'back, and to the left' title - I couldn't stop thinking about it either. Although I thought it was The Critic where they made that reference... but I probably misremembered it.

And yup, that's why I picked Kanji to be Ruby. No one else seemed appropriate. I mean, Yosuke? I... well, he could, since he was so close to Souji, and if you're hip on conspiracy theories, it's stated that Ruby was *very* close to Oswald. (Although Souji wasn't Oswald, I know.) But it didn't seem fitting. Kanji... with Ruby as a seedy nightclub owner and rather off-color fellow, it seemed rather fitting.

Passerby!Anon was watching old dvds of The Critic a few weeks ago, and it's from there! The Director's Cut of JFK had seventeen extra minutes of "Back and to the left." ♥
