At this rate (with ‘this rate’ specifically referring to ‘doing nothing in the past twenty minutes but sit there and glance at each other’), they were going to die of blood rushing to their faces before anything even happened.

Finally, Naoto took a deep breath and steeled herself, looking up at Kanji, who was looking at the very uninteresting wall of his room. There were stuffed animals (they looked handmade, judging from the somewhat irregular but painstakingly done stitch-work at the seams) in all shapes and sizes lining the shelves, but this was not the first time she had been here, it was just…the first time she had been here to do that.

“…Are you…”

“…Yes.” Kanji turned to her.

“…Then do you want to-“ Naoto looked nervous, and she lowered her eyes to where her hands were fisted in her lap, growing clammy from unease.

“Yes,” reassured Kanji, leaning forward aggressively out of habit. He caught himself and reeled back twice as far to compensate, before finally settling on the same position as before - a polite, normal ( ... )
