That isn't me.

Laughter echoed all around her, piercing through her aching skull -- was her giggling really so grating? Sure, sometimes after hours and hours of bad takes, Rise had gotten a little tired of keeping her voice so light and airy, but this...

That's not me. Not me, not me, not me...

But that twittering thing that was currently swinging round a stripper's pole one-handed, childish laughter bubbling from her throat... looked exactly like her. Luxurious brunette hair styled precisely like hers, caught up in the twin pigtails she favored ('One of Risette's charm points,' claimed her agent) -- the bangs even sloped down in front exactly the same way hers did, framing her face to draw more attention to her smile, her beautiful eyes...

The other girl's eyes were yellow, though -- no, a rich gold to match her barely-there bikini. Small comfort, considering how her doppleganger called attention to everything but her face...

"Look at me! Everyone, keep your eyes on me...!"

They offered it to her during one of her shoots -- or was it a commerical? She can't quite recall; they're all mixed up inside her head the way they ran together after a while, similarities bleeding and blending 'til it's all the same, all the same, all they ever want is for her to smile and strut and look pretty and innocent with a hint of something more behind her every motion, and it's all a game isn't it? Playing pretend, straddling the line between sweet and sexual just the same way the her-that-isn't-her is straddling that bar. (Maybe it's not quite the same, but the metaphor sticks in the back of her mind and won't go away, just like how the girl in front of her won't stop moving.)

They turned it down.

No. Her agent turned it down. She...

She didn't like it, but she liked it. She didn't want to wear it, but she did. Her agents said it didn't suit her -- she thought she couldn't pull it off -- but...

Look at me.

She looks wonderful. Natural. That cut, that style leaves so little to the imagination, and yet -- there ( ... )
