Kanji and Rise are comfortable together; enough time in the same class, Kanji’s looming form scaring off the fanboys that would otherwise assail her, quickly mark them as the outsiders of the class. For an idol, she’s not that popular; for a punk who would break your nose as soon as he’d look at you, all he needs is one friend

Chie and Naoto are something else altogether. Watching them together is like watching a cat and dog, Chie all happy enthusiasm, Naoto responding with considered tact. The younger girl occasionally fights back a smile as she shoots down one of her senpai’s more outrageous ideas, the kicked-puppy look on Chie’s face almost heartbreaking to any passers-by. You can almost hear the whimper as the puppy backs off, cautious for a few minutes before bounding forward with unquenchable enthusiasm once again.

They don’t do things together in the traditional sense; the only hanging out would be when they run into each other in the shopping district, making lively conversation as they walk, rarely more than a street or two before they part, always on good terms. Chie respects Naoto’s intelligence, Naoto finds Chie’s determination admirable. Sometimes they train together, if target practice and katas side-by-side can be considered as such

I don't even know what to say. It wasn't long but it doesn't matter. Everything rings so true and if at first I was skeptical for the Chie and Naoto part (I was wondering how they could be hanging out), now it makes sense. I loved all the little details you put in your story.
