The anti-adoption movement comes out of the belief that most mothers who give their children up for adoption still want their children. Children that really aren't wanted are aborted. Most women who surrend their children do want their child, they just get sucked into believing that they wouldn't make good parents. Many of the mothers are young and scared. They are told by others that they are too young, too poor, etc ( ... )

i wanted to agree, and to also say that ive seen this happen first-hand. my young cousin and a good friend of mine (both white-white babies are high demand) were pressured into adoption scenarios with older white childless people with a good income, and told all kinds of lies about what their access would be to the child, etc. they were promised money, and told repeatedly that they would be doing the RIGHT BEST thing for their kids, how teen parents cant cope, how horrible their lives would be, and basically railroaded because they were underage. both of them got out of it at the last minute thanks to an online movement at the time, my now deceased friend wrote an article called, 'when i was garbage', http://www.girl-mom.com/node/34 outlining her experience. my cousin now 21 with a 4 year old continues to be the best parent her little girl could ever want, and although my friend alli passed away, her son cade whom she had when she was 15 resides with his maternal ( ... )

So they want to do things like change the amount of time that a woman has to reconsider (since people can't really think clearly in the first 24 hours after birth). Some of the effort is to ensure that women thinking of giving up their babies obtain proper legal and psychological counselling, as well as information about what government resources are available to help them if they want to raise their own kids. In the states part of the effort is to have a federal reform since right now each state has different laws and adoption agencies will encourage women to move into states that have laws which favor the adoptive parents. Some want to switch things so that there are only government run adoption agencies and no private ones, since private agencies are agencies that earn money by ( ... )
