I had predicted 79 seats for the Coalition.

It looks like they'll have considerably more than that now. A majority of 24 - 26 looks likely.

I can only hope that somehow Malcolm Turnbull now becomes PM.

And not only that, but also a majority in the senate. Australia and higher education are fucked. Does anyone wanna come on a 4 yr holiday overseas with me and come back in time for next election?

3 years.

I wouldn't worry too much about higher education.

It's workplace relations that are in trouble. Bye bye unfair dismissal.

Dont worry bout higher education!? They are going to implement voluntary student unionism meaning no more student life as we know it. And they're getting rid of faculties left right and centre and increasing HECs exponentially. Not to mention what they'll do to welfare... Aieeeee!

VSU? good. Why should you have to pay massive union fees to get a higher education? You were complaining about your union fees not that long ago.

Increasing HECS doesn't bother me, someone has to pay for the education, why not the person who benefits from it? It's not like you have to pay until you're actually making money out of your education anyway.

And welfare... needs some reform. It's too easy for people to be a profession couch potato at my expense.

But my question is this: if they are doing all this, then where the hell is my tax cut?!

Yes I was complaining about how much union fees I have to pay at USYD but USYD is a rich kids uni so it's kinda expected. In principle however student unionism is a good idea how else are student mean to have a collective voice?

And of course HECs increases don't bother you because you go to UTAS and they AREN'T increasing their HECs. Look past your own self interest and see all the people this is going to be negatively affecting.

And Yes I agree Welfare needs some reform but not by cutting it, making it more difficult to get or privatising it, but by making it fairer.

In answer to your question: you should know that the Howard government only gives tax cuts to the rich so don't be expecting any of those tax cuts to be falling into your lap any time soon unless you start earning a little bit more...

I was unaware of that, not that I'm a student anyway. Look at all the people that are negatively affected by low HECS payments.. they aren't just rich people.
