Disclaimer: Benji & Joel Madden are real people, and the events in this story are just that - fictional, figments of my sick and twisted imagination. Hell, call it a fantasy if it makes you feel better. Whatever. No rumours should be started in regards to any events in these works of fiction. This story is written purely for entertainment purposes and no money is being made out of it.
Summary: When a drunken kiss strains the twins’ relationship, Joel does everything he can to stop Benji avoiding him.

Joel looked up from his magazine at the sound of the door opening. He met Benji’s eyes briefly, sighing when Benji turned around, starting to walk back out of the door.

“Don’t go,” Joel requested softly, dropping his magazine to the floor,

“I… I have to... to go and… and…”

Joel shook his head sadly. “No, you don’t.”

Benji ignored Joel, not seeing the despair that flashed across his face, instead keeping his back to him and pushing the door open. “I… I’ve got things to do, Joel. I have…. I’ve got to… to go and… and… see… B… Billy and…” Mumbled excuses and broken insistences of things to do and places to be tumbled out from Benji and he ignored Joel’s repeated request for him to stay.

“Benjamin!”

The door was open and Benji had one foot through it when he froze, head jerking up. He wasn’t sure what had stunned him more; Joel’s use of his full name, or Joel raising his voice.

“What?” It came out as more of a sigh than anything, Benji’s shoulders slumping, the fight draining out of him.

“Please don’t do this, I don’t think I can take much more of it. You… You can’t even stand being in the same room as me anymore.” Joel’s voice caught in his throat as he spoke and he coughed to try and cover it. He lifted his eyes from the floor to stare at Benji’s back. “I hate this, Benji. I hate it and it fucking hurts, ok? I hate you hating me!”

“I…” Benji leaned forward, resting his head against the wall, still not looking at Joel. “I don’t hate you, Joel. I could never hate you, I just…” Benji trailed off, straightening up and shaking his head. “I don’t know… I just don’t know, not anymore.”

“We… I think we need to talk, Benji.”

Benji shook his head. “No, we don’t. At least, not yet. I don’t… I don’t know what you want me to say, Joel.”

“Benji, please.” There was a sob in Joel’s voice, a sob that threatened to shatter Benji’s heart into a thousand pieces.

Benji sighed and ran his hands over his face; how was he ever supposed to deny Joel anything? He strode across the room and sat down next to Joel on the couch, resting his head in his hands, staring intently at the floor. Joel folded his legs under him and sat sideways on the couch, facing Benji.

“You… You kissed me,” he said quietly.

Benji moaned. “I did,” he agreed. “I really really did.” He took a deep breath before continuing. “I’m sorry, Joel. I’m so fucking sorry. I was drunk and… and know that’s no excuse but it’s the only one I’ve got.” Once he started to talk, the words came tumbling out of his mouth and Benji made no effort to stop them. “I don’t know why I did it, seemed like a good idea at the time, but… So fucking stupid. I… I love you Joel, more than just as my brother, more than I should. I’m a sick fuck and I know I am and I was drunk and I just… I had this crazy notion that you might… that you could… But you don’t and I’ve fucked everything up and I’m so fucking sorry. It won’t happen again, I promise.”

“What if I wanted it to?” Joel asked quietly.

“What?” Benji’s head shot up and he turned to look at Joel, confusion creasing his brow.

Joel took a deep breath, then leant in and cupped Benji’s cheek in his hand. Neither of them moved, Benji shivering as Joel’s every breath ghosted over his lip piercings. Joel’s tongue flickered out to wet his lips before he spoke, lips brushing over Benji’s “Would you kiss me again if I wanted you to?” He pressed his lips against Benji, kissing him lightly.

Benji moaned and shifted around on the couch to get even closer to Joel, cupping his head as he returned the tentative kiss, deepening it, his tongue slipping past Joel’s lips to tease his tongue into responding, sucking hard on it before pulling back, breaking the kiss. He rested his forehead against Joel’s, breathing heavily. “I could do that,” he agreed.
