A decreased interest in politics and news

This may be a function of getting older, but I find myself with a decreasingly interest in politics and news. I used to be quite the news junkie - staying up late to watch the midnight rerun of the (then-)MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, following national politics and news, subscribing to The Economist and reading BBC news, among other sources ( Read more... )

I think I'm a bit less economically socialist than you, but I sympathize entirely. My take on it, though, is that the vast majority of television news is...what's a good word? Inane. It's not just the science-related arguments, it's the forcefitting of pretty-much everything into whatever preconceived narrative seems most convenient at the time.

In general, the level of political discussion in this country has gone to the dogs, the stark raving bonkers pack. Politians no longer speak -- they pontificate the true annointed word, and since everything they pontificate is true, questions and details are unnessesary.

Anybody remember that Irish woman who dared to question Baby Bush's answers?
