Ah, there you are.

I went on my first bike ride in about 13 years not long ago. 18+ kilometres on the bike road that goes round Vancouver's sea wall, Stanley Park, Coal Harbour, etc., on my 1950 Raleigh 3-speed (used to be all steel, now has aluminum rims and aluminum hub shells). Brooks leather saddle! It's about time to do it again now mah butt's not sore any more.

Umwhut! *koff*

SQUEEE!!!! I have a 1950's Raleigh 3 speed, (Sturmey Archer equipped, lever shift, not twist) with the Brooks saddle AND...

a Dynohub generator... Your's too?

Pictures PLEASE!!!

I found mine at an estate sale for $25 and I HAD to buy it. I'm going to restore it for a "Tweed ride" bike. I LOVE dyno hub. Need to find proper lightbulbs for it, though...6v...any ideas?

I've got two 1950 Raleigh 3-speeds, my father's 1954 Norman 3-speed, a 1967 Raleigh 5-speed (originally 3-speed), and a giant whackload of parts. The one I rode the other day was a pound puppy bought in Ann Arbor in 1997 or so and ridden round campus with its rusty wheel rims countervailing the uselessness of chromed-steel braking surfaces in the wet. Parked it for years when I lived in Toronto (I don't have a death wish). Recently refurbished it with new aluminum rims, a new Sturmey-Archer aluminum-shell 3-speed-plus-70mm-drum-brake rear hub and matching 70mm drum brake front hub. Running a Brooks B130 on it (quad rear coil springs; two compression and two extension, plus double hairpin spring up front). Original round-window brass-face trigger shifter.

The other '50 is a genuine DL-1 (English copcycle) tall frame with fully-enclosed chaincase, 28" steel wheels, damn-near-useless rod-and-stirrup brakes, front dynohub.

The bulb you want is this one.

Pictures I have; I oughtta do a post. Watch my LJ.

PS: Stanley park is heaven on Earth. If I lived in Vancouver, I'd ride the seawall EVERY DAY...Rain or shine. I LOVE LOVE FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!

Hello, it's good to "see" you again. :)

You look nothing alike indeed. I would never have guessed that he's your brother. :)

His first words to me, upon meeting in front of the coffeehouse were "Are you my twin brother?"

HONESTLY, Had I not received a photo of him sent by my folks earlier in the year, I'd NEVER have recognized him upon sight.

You look great!

I never would have guessed that was your brother, let alone your twin brother.

Fraternal, of course. Not identical... but yes. He much more looks like Mom, and I much more resemble Dad.

Oh, I've been comfortable with your body for some time ;0) - glad you're catching up ... and especially pleased to see you back on LJ.

Sounds like you've been busy with a lot of physical activity - good for you ! (the best I seem to do is to drag myself to the gym a few times a week).
Hope you had a pleasant time visiting with your bro.
Wishing you happy adventures!
