Take it easy this event. Make everyone else take it easy too. I suspect that PC expectations are not what they normally are and everyone will understand if it's a lower key event than a regular event. Heck, some of us would revel in a lower key event.

This is a revel (an occasion of noisy merrymaking). Note that there is no mention of death, destuction and sqalor in there. Relax and revel. Push that on the rest of staff who all seem to be freaking out as well but who all seem to be equally dumb and willing to kill themselves. So no abuse for you.
