"Chotto matte kudasai."

The Japanese phrase "chotto matte kudasai" ("just one moment, please" in english), comes in very handy in the classroom. If I need to make a sudden toilet break, retrieve something from the other classroom, blow my nose, pick a wedgie, or go outside to get a much needed breath of fresh air, all I need to say is "chotto matte kudasai" and off I go. I've started using "dozo" in class when they all stand around like cattle, like "uh, do I go or do YOU go or what do we do??" Amazingly, it works....
