I first got into anime by buying the columbia house BEST OF ANIME video set.
It started with akira, then lily cat, then robot carnival, then project a-ko and some other anime. Then low and behold a month later they started this whole saturday anime thing on the sci-fi channel that featured..every anime I just paid columbia house to get.
I haven't been into any new anime in ages. I just started watching slam dunk on youtube.

I never got to watch the stuff on Sci-Fi since my family never had the channel included in our cable subscription practice. Heh, I even remember all the trouble I went through convincing mom to get Cartoon Network once Sailor Moon moved onto it.
I've never seen Slam Dunk, though the manga art looks nice. The artist did the designs for Lost Odyssey, an RPG on the XBox360 and it's great looking.
I second Bryan on the "brings back memories" bit, though I don't think I've known you for as long as the other people in our peripheral crew have. The last new anime I watched was "Honey and Clover" which was nothing short of absolutely amazing (if you like the 'slice of life' types of series), and I haven't really gotten into anything since. I tried to watch "Romeo and Juliet" a few months back, but couldn't get into it. Lately, all I have time for is the odd video game. I keep thinking back on my childhood and I realize that I actually did like video games the best. Nowadays, I only stop by cons because some of my friends still go. We totally should've hung out when I was in Boston for a few days two months...but there's always next time.
As for fantasy themed shows, I totally second Escaflowne and Record of Lodoss War, though Escaflowne is more of a steampunk-ish genre than it is fantasy. (And there really isn't enough steampunk in this world.) I highly recommend them!
Hey Lisa! <3 I think I recall you posing about Clover and Honey but I just never got around to trying it. If I end up going beyond fantasy then I'll give it a shot.
Sorry about not getting in touch when I realized you were in Boston. Joel and I only ended up going to the convention for a bit on Sunday with our donated passes. Definitely next time. Or I'll give a heads up when I'm ever visiting my family in So. Cal. :)
I know I've seen the Escaflowne movie and I thought that was awesome. I think the TV show's style scared me off (THE NOSES!). Thanks for the recommendations!
