Thinking back, Ianto recalls the time he and Jack flew to Australia on Torchwood business. It was the furthest he’d ever travelled, and by the time they’d touched down at their destination he’d come to fully understand the term ‘long haul flight’.
It almost seems laughable nowadays to consider that little jaunt long, when in reality it had been nothing more than a short hop from one hemisphere of his own planet to the other.
Travelling as he does these days from one world to another, any journey requiring less than two weeks of travel time is a short trip. Long hauls are anything upwards of eight weeks, and everything in between is considered normal.
Of course, travelling for two months aboard a spaceship, with fully furnished living quarters and all the mod-cons is a far cry from spending a long flight mostly sitting, and trying to sleep, in a cramped seat on a plane. He doesn’t have to worry about developing blood clots from inactivity; he’s getting plenty of exercise, and not all of it is of the horizontal variety.
“You won’t get to Medoria any faster by running,” Jack points out.
“Shut up. I happen to enjoy running.”
