Ryo loved Dee, no question there. Even when they’d first met, he’d liked his new partner, because for all his faults Dee was an amiable, curiously charming man. A bit blunt at times, a little too honest, and lazy when it came to doing the paperwork side of the job, but still likeable for all that.
His habit of napping on the job was annoying though, especially since Dee would nap while Ryo was toiling over a mountain of forms and reports. It wasn’t that Ryo wanted to nap himself, he didn’t believe in sleeping on the job, he just felt that if his partner had nothing to do, he should be helping clear their desks.
Dee had warned him when they’d become partners that he’d be expected to deal with the paperwork, but Ryo had thought he was joking, or that it was a sort of initiation designed to quickly familiarise him with the different forms he’d have to fill in. Turned out it wasn’t anything of the sort; Dee just hated doing paperwork.
Naturally, he had plenty of excuses. Ryo was better at the clerical stuff. Dee needed to conserve his energy for chasing suspects, and all the legwork involved in being a cop… Over time, Ryo had managed to persuade Dee that filling out his share of the reports would be to his benefit, rewarding his efforts, usually with a homecooked meal. Now they were lovers, there were other ways of keeping him in line, withholding certain pleasures for instance. Dee wasn’t that difficult to motivate if you knew which buttons to push. He was surprisingly uncomplicated.
Today though, Ryo was the one who felt like he should have been conserving his energy. He felt wiped out. Bikky was away at summer camp, Dee had invited himself over to spend the night, and in the end, Ryo had only gotten a couple of hours’ sleep.
He could have given Dee a firm ‘No’ after the second round, probably should have, but when Dee kissed him that way… Naturally, his lover claimed Ryo was just finally developing a healthy libido, but three times in one night seemed a bit excessive. Dee might be used to frequent sex, but Ryo wasn’t, and now here they were at work and Ryo was starting to think he should have stayed in bed, alone, and called in sick.
“You okay, babe?” Dee murmured, as Ryo took another swig of coffee, relying on the caffeine to give him an energy boost.
“Fine, but last night…”
“Was awesome,” Dee cut in, grinning.
“Never again, Dee!”
“What?” Dee frowned across their desks.
“Not when we have to get up in the morning for work. It’s one thing if we can sleep in the next morning, but if we’re working the next day then we stick to once, maybe twice at most. Either that, or I get to sleep the day before.” He quirked a smile at Dee. “I’m older than you, gotta conserve my energy.”
