The Doctor didn’t approve of violence, always insisting it was unnecessary and didn’t solve anything, so while travelling in the TARDIS Jack had done his best to live up to the Time Lord’s ideals. It hadn’t always been easy, and right at the end he’d taken up arms against the Daleks, but for the most part he’d been a model of restraint.
Once he’d become stranded on earth after burning out the teleport function on his wrist strap, he’d had a harder time of avoiding violence, especially after he came to the attention of Torchwood, but he still found himself trying to be the kind of person the Doctor would approve of. In a way it became a point of honour with him.
But when pushed, the violence was still there, just beneath the surface. There was a time and a place for pacifism, but when something unknown was threatening his team… That was when the gloves came off.
The Doctor wouldn’t have approved of him torturing an injured man for information, but Jack didn’t care. Ianto and Tosh were missing, and Jack would go to any lengths to save his people, including killing anyone who got in his way.
