“We’ve got the bastard now,” Dee said with a satisfied smile. The arms dealer was about to walk right into their little trap. He was only small-time, but still, if they could nab him, they’d get more illegal guns off the streets.
“We can’t know that for sure, Dee. Not yet,” Ryo said, watching through the window, waiting for the right moment to move in. “Even if he falls for our sting, who knows how the court case might play out? If he gets a good enough lawyer, he could still get off with little more than a slap on the wrist instead of going to jail.”
“Ryo’s right,” Drake agreed. “It’s a bad idea to count your eggs before they’re hatched. Or is it chickens before they’re eggs? I can never get that one right.”
“Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched, Drakey,” JJ corrected his boyfriend. “Because until the eggs hatch, you can’t know how many chickens you’ll have. Some eggs might not hatch at all.”
“Oh.” Drake looked thoughtful. “Yeah, I get it now.” He beamed at his lover. “Thanks, JJ. No one’s ever bothered to explain it to me before, but it makes perfect sense when you put it like that.”
“Always happy to help.” JJ leaned in to give his boyfriend a quick kiss.”-
“Okay, no premature celebratin’,” Dee chastised his colleagues, mostly because his own lover was too focused on the events playing out below to celebrate with him. “Let’s catch our guy first.”
