“How much Halloween candy did you buy?” Ryo asked, staring in disbelief as he unpacked the bags of groceries Dee had just arrived home with. They’d decided to split the chores with Dee doing the grocery shopping from the list his partner had written, and Ryo doing cleaning and some laundry, since they only had one day off this week.
“Not much, just a few bags. There’s always so many kinds to choose from, I never know what to get, and I didn’t wanna leave it ‘til the last minute, when there might not be much of a choice.”
Ryo shook his head, grinning. “Doofus. Don’t you remember I told you I’d bought the candy for Halloween a few weeks back, when it first went on sale?”
“You did?” Dee frowned, thinking back, then facepalmed. “You did, I remember teasin’ ya about whether ya already ordered the Thanksgivin’ turkey too. I’m an idiot. I just saw the candy and figured I oughta get some.”
Snickering, Ryo finished emptying the grocery bags and started putting things away.
“So, uh, how many bags of candy have we got?” Dee said, eying what he’d bought.
“Including this lot? Twenty-seven bags.”
“Should be plenty.”
