A/N: Triple drabble.
There were times the Rift managed to confound even the Torchwood team with what it brought to Cardiff, and they were used to weirdness. Anyone else would likely have suffered a nervous breakdown on the spot, but Torchwood agents were made of sterner stuff. The ones who couldn’t handle the unexplainable didn’t last long.
Ianto studied the hole in the wall. “Okay, that’s different.”
“You’re telling me.” Owen reached out tentatively and poked his finger in the hole, which had a diameter of approximately two feet, and a nice, smooth edge. “Definitely a hole.”
“The last time it seemed like we got a hole, it turned out to be one of the golf course holes, made bigger by an enlarging device, but this time it’s definitely a hole.” Ianto bent over and peered through from the alley into the backroom of a shop. “The problem is, what do we do about it? We can’t just leave it there; it’s an open invitation to thieves. Literally.”
A quick phone call brought Jack to the scene to see for himself. He grinned. “Haven’t seen one of these in years! They were banned because some fell into the hands of criminals and… well, you know what they’re like. One enterprising gang got hold of a couple and used them to get into the vault of the largest bank on Terpinus. Almost cleaned it out before they were caught. The bank sued the inventor and bankrupted him.”
“That’s all very interesting,” Owen muttered, not sounding the least bit interested, “but there’s a hole in the wall, so what d’we do about it, brick it up?”
“No need.” Jack’s grin widened. “We’ll take it with us.” Reaching out, he carefully peeled the hole off the wall and rolled it up. “Think how useful it’ll be!”
