Without even thinking about it, Ianto braced his feet against the SUV’s floor and gripped the seat beneath him with one hand as the vehicle took to the air going over a humpbacked bridge. From the backseat came a chorus of yelps and curses.
“Bloody Hell, Harkness!” Owen griped, rubbing the top of his head, which had just been bounced off the inside of the roof as the car landed on all four wheels again. “Are you tryin’ to kill us back here?”
“Hold onto the seat or something,” Ianto said mildly. “Then you won’t bounce as much when we go over the next one.”
“Next one?”
“Lots of small bridges along here.” Ianto didn’t look back at his teammates in the rear; his eyes were focussed on the scanner in his hand, tracking the signal. “We’re closing in. Target is less than a mile ahead, and slowing.”
“Weapons at the ready. Brace yourselves, kids; I don’t think this one’s gonna come quietly.”
“Do they ever? Blowfish are usually too high on drugs to behave rationally,” Tosh said.
“There’s irrational, and then there’s psychotic,” Jack pointed out. “This one has a score to settle. Let’s not give him the chance.”
