Bikky was well aware of how dangerous being a cop could be. He’d seen on the news and in the papers about police officers being shot, sometimes even killed, so he couldn’t help but worry about his foster father. Was being a detective safer than being in uniform? He wasn’t sure, and he wondered if he was maybe better off not knowing.
Detectives investigated crimes, serious ones like murders and armed robberies. They had to arrest dangerous criminals, people with guns and knives and stuff, people who didn’t want to be arrested and locked up.
Still, he knew Ryo was always careful, and he had Dee watching his back. As much as Bikky claimed not to like Dee, he knew there was nothing his dad’s partner wouldn’t do to protect Ryo, including sacrificing his own life. If there was one thing Bikky and Dee agreed on, it was that they both loved Ryo and wanted him to stay safe.
Bad things could happen though, like with Bikky’s dad. Okay, so he was a criminal, and he stole from his boss, but even so, his dad probably hadn’t expected to be gunned down in the street.
Every day, Bikky found himself praying to a god he wasn’t even sure he believed in that Ryo would be okay, that even if something bad DID happen, his foster father would survive and come home safely. He’d already lost two parents, people who’d loved him; he didn’t think he could survive losing Ryo too.
