Plunging the garden fork into the damp soil, Jack left it standing there as he swiped the back of his gardening glove across his forehead to clear the sweat that was dripping into his eyes. It left a streak of dirt behind, but even if he’d noticed, he wouldn’t have cared. Gardening could be dirty work.
A short distance away, Ianto straightened up from where he’d been clearing fallen leaves from the paths, easing kinks out of his back. For late autumn, it was scorchingly hot, the sun beating down from a clear blue sky. Something caught his attention, and he frowned.
“Have you noticed Fluffs don’t sweat? You’d think Nosy would be roasting under all that thick fur, but the heat doesn’t seem to bother it in the slightest.”
The family Fluff had been busying itself fetching and carrying, and now it slithered over to its friends with two bottles of water in its little basket, straight from the fridge.
“Maybe its fur insulates it from the heat.” Jack helped himself to one of the bottles, twisting the cap off and taking a long drink.
“I suppose that’s possible. Must be nice, never getting too hot or too cold.”
