The wealthier a suspect was, the trickier it could be to prove they were guilty, especially when it came to homicide, because the wealthy and powerful usually preferred to have someone else do the dirty work for them, paying a hitman, or threatening a subordinate into doing their bidding. There were occasions, however, when a wealthy person decided, for whatever reason, to do the job themselves.
Mason Chandler was big in finance, he could afford to hire the best lawyers, but he also happened to be arrogant and completely certain that he couldn’t be tied to the untimely and brutal death of the family nanny.
His wife was staying out of it; she’d long suspected that her husband was having an affair with the young woman they’d hired to care for their two-year-old daughter, but if she filed for divorce, she’d lose everything. The nanny’s death had shocked her, but she had no proof of her husband’s involvement. If there WAS any, she was relying on the police to find it, because if her husband was charged with the crime, that would change everything.
It took a while, Chandler had covered his tracks well, but although he must have changed and disposed of his bloodstained clothes before calling the police to report the murder, he hadn’t gotten the blood off everything.
“Mason Chandler,” Dee said, feeling a sense of smug satisfaction. “You’re under arrest for the murder of Molly Flanagan.”
“You have no proof!”
“On the contrary.” Ryo took out his handcuffs. “We have all the proof we need. Maybe you should’ve taken your Rolex off before beating her to death. Or do you have some other explanation for how you got Molly’s blood and brain tissue caught in the clasp?”
Chandler slumped. “She was going to tell my wife.”
