Summary: Regeneration is always a painful process.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
It hurts; it always does. Regeneration is never painless, not in the Doctor’s experience. After all, it only happens when he’s already seriously injured, suffering from radiation poisoning, or something equally fatal. Regeneration only works when the old body is failing beyond any chance of recovery.
He wonders if other Time Lords experience the process differently, or if it’s the same for everyone. There’s a burning sensation deep inside of him, a ball of heat that grows and expands until it races like fire along every nerve in his body, finally bursting free, consuming the old to forge him anew.
