Okay, first off, the virus will probably not affect you since you have a Macintosh. (Insert people yelling "yeah take THAT microsoft" and me beating them with a stick) Secondly, never, I repeat, NEVER open ANY attachments from someone you do not know. It has been confirmed that it's some nasty virus that is going around the email server from from sick person who obviously has a final to turn in via email.

Thirdly, if you get a virus, it can only affect the computer that you are currently using. The internet cannot indiscriminately determine that your email connects to your computer because the internet is a floating entity. So don't despair, you'll just cost the school some money to fix up their computers =P Serves them right for never fixing ours.

oooh. yay, danke schön.
yeah, I knew that about the attachments, but the ones I got from webmaster@macalester threw me a bit.

now more is coming out about this as a campus-wide thing, one of my friends has a theory it's some comp sci student's senior project. which is a silly idea and would just be nasty but all the same... wouldn't surprise me.

thanks for the tips!
