This was going to be a Happy Birthday message to myself back on the 15th. I went home on the 11th to visit my Mom and Dad for my Mom's birthday. I stayed until the night of the 14th, and I drove back to Ft. Hood. I was exhausted from the drive and I immediately went to sleep. At about 11 am on the 15th, I got a call from my Mom's house. Nothing to be sorry about. He lead a full life and went the best way possible. I worry about my Mom, but I'll take each day as it comes...

Seems like practically everyone's birthday is in January, so it is some sort of balance or something. It was kind of a shock to the whole family. But all of Dad's living friends came, and almost all our family, so it was a packed chapel. Dad wouldn't have liked all the fuss...but he would have appreciated it in a quiet way. I can hear him saying something like "I never bothered with this [stuff] in life, now you want to throw it at me when I can't say anything about it!" in his usual gruff manner, but he would have probably been smiling. At least he went peacefully, Mom thought he had fallen asleep in his chair when she woke up that morning to get him ready for his appointment...

When my dad passed away, they held the memorial in the local theatrical building. Tons of people showed up, it was really weird cause i had no idea who these people were. The local police even shut down roads and coordinated parking. it was weird. But i think he would've been similar, wouldn't like all the fuss and people.
