Happy Birthday - again

This time it was Ron Paul's turn, and he and his staff threw their annual barbecue blast down in Texas City (that's between Houston and the Gulf, for you non-Texans). It was some kind of drive to get there from Austin, but in the end, worth it. Not only was the food and company great, but we were able to meet with Ron's staff (some of us for the ( Read more... )

I really like the Batman and Robin pic. The LL's should be up and running by the second or third week of school.

That's probably not going to be good enough, Andrew. Most students join clubs in the first two weeks, and they might already belong to something that meets on Monday nights by the time you guys get going. Sorry to be critical, but I ran a few clubs at UT and that was my experience.

Well, the first week of school does not even begin on a Monday (which is the best time for most of the members as determined by an oral vote last semester) so if we begin on the second week (which Zach and "the core" members decided would be most convenient for our schedules) it would still be the the first Monday of classes. I can't even move to Austin till this Sunday and would like to be more situated before having a meeting the next day. I need to find a job, and go shopping for my apartment in those precious 4 days between my moving in and when classes start.

I'm so sorry to disappoint, but I really don't want to meet til Monday the 4th of September. Which would not only be more accommodating to our schedules, but could also be a symbolic protest of Labor Day.

But I will talk Zach and anyone else who gets on AIM between now and then about recruiting new members in the interim period.

No, you're right that it wouldn't be necessary to meet right away. I just meant as far as recruiting. I know it's a hassle to deal with the table, especially since you've got so much other stuff to do, but if we could run that in the first half week of class, then we could grab those students before they commit themselves to another club that meets on Monday night.

I've got a morning intern from St. Ed's. Maybe I could talk to him about sitting at the table if someone else can set it up, if you're strapped for labor. It's weird, but it could work.

And also, NORML is throwing a fundraiser concert at Momo's on Saturday night the 2nd. I think they intend to pass out fliers on the West Mall that Thursday and Friday, and I figured you guys would want to keep a stack on the table. If a table for the half-week doesn't work out, at least let me get a stack of LL fliers from you guys to take to the concert on Saturday. That way any UT students who come will learn about you.
