So today is Ash Wednesday. I went and got ashes at St. Paul's at the 12:00 mass. They were smudged off by 6:00 pm when I had to go to my class. What's up with me ( Read more... )

What an interesting post! I was never interested in Unitarianism just because as you are, I am an atheist, my crowd is the Marxists and I get any kind of companionship and feeling of belonging from them. Actually, I'm almost a born-again atheist because there was a time before I became a Marxist that I was looking for something so that my life meant something and that fit the bill, not Jesus.

Oh, guilt. We are all such Puritans.

<85 percent of catholics don't believe its teachings on birth control.>but if 15% do, that's still messed up.

I'm glad you're trying to give up junk food. I've been doing weightwatcher points and it's so great to feel like you're actually in control SOME of the time.

wow thanks. Yeah...I'm just confused. I'm glad you found something that fits for you...I think that's what activism provided for me, but now that I don't have any groups or anything, and our anti-sweatshop campaign failed, I'm kind of looking for something else.

lol - good point on the guilt thing.

Yeah...I agree about the birth control thing.

Good luck with weight watchers! I read a good article in Anthro of Food about how dieting is kind of "sin and salvation", and that you feel good when you are dieting, and then when you binge you feel all guilty. I feel like I'm definitely sort of doing that w/ Lent...but my binging is going to occur in six weeks.

"And UU is all about your own path and your own spiritual journey. So i think if i get my spiritual rocks off by going to mass then it's what i should be doing. there's no point in going to a service if you're not *getting* anything from it."

that's kind of how I feel. Yes...we need to hang out. Do you want to go to a Fish fry with me? I don't know if you are vegan/vegetarian or not...but there's a Catholic Church in bloomfield that has one. Otherwise we should just get some vegetarian food on a friday or something after spring break.
