“Sorry, man. I didn’t know she’d be here.” Jongdae sympathetically pours him a drink in a cheap plastic cup. The smell is strong and instantly burns his sinuses when he breathes it in.

Baekhyun wrinkles his nose and downs the vodka in his hand, gesturing for another before he responds in a clipped tone. “If you’re really sorry, then you’ll let me leave right now. I would rather be curled in a blanket on the couch at my shitty apartment where I can gorge myself with Häagen-Dazs and binge watch Sherlock than be here at this stupid party.”

“Baek, come on,” Jongdae sighs in exasperation. He rolls his eyes and pours a little more in the cup when Baekhyun shakes it impatiently. “You’ve seen every episode four times in the last month alone. That’s not counting the two months before. Your couch is developing a permanent indent from your non-existent ass sitting on it every spare second. I’m not trying to dismiss your broken heart, or whatever, but it’s time you get back out there, you know? Climb back on the horse and try again. Tonight can be good for you if you just let it.”

Baekhyun’s only response is downing his drink in one gulp and signaling for another before the burn can even make it all the way down his throat.

Jongdae shakes his head, clearly wary of letting Baekhyun get too drunk too fast, but in the end he dutifully refills Baekhyun’s cup. He sets the glass vodka bottle down afterward, just out of Baekhyun’s reach. Distantly, they hear Kyungsoo call for Jongdae from the living room. Before he leaves the quiet kitchen, Jongdae pauses and rests his hand on Baekhyun’s shoulder. He gives his friend a deep look, and Baekhyun does his very best to ignore the nagging voice in the back of his mind telling him that Jongdae’s right.

“Look, I can’t make you stay, and to be honest, I don’t want to force you to be here against your will. If you want to go home, I’m not going to stop you. But,” he pats Baekhyun’s shoulder, “I’m just trying to help you, Baek. It hurts me to see my best friend so heartbroken. Healing is different for everyone, but I really, really think you can do better than Kim Taeyeon, and this party might be a good place to start. That is all I’m saying.”

Jongdae sounds so sure, so matter of fact. Like it’s that easy. Go to a party, and the broken pieces of Baekhyun’s heart will magically be repaired by the loud music and gyrating hips permeating all the other rooms. Simple as that.

He pats Baekhyun one more time as he leaves the kitchen to search for Kyungsoo. As soon as he’s gone, the room is suddenly too quiet and isolated. The only noises are the gentle hum of the refrigerator, the ticking of the clock on the wall, and that persistent voice in his head telling him to stop being such a baby. He takes another drink in the hopes of drowning the voice out - it is annoyingly Jongdae-like.

Baekhyun thinks if he strains his ears he can hear the bass of the music thumping through the walls from somewhere else in the apartment, can almost feel it in his bones, and suddenly he doesn’t want to be alone anymore. Maybe it’s the alcohol burning through his bloodstream, or maybe it’s the weeks of self-imposed isolation catching up to him, or - and don’t ever tell Jongdae - maybe his friend was right. Maybe it is time to meet someone new.

He’s only a little bit wobbly as he makes his way to the source of the music. It’s not a good idea to drink on an empty stomach, he knows, but he’d been feeling queasy and anxious since this morning when Jongdae said he was dragging him to the party. Baekhyun hadn’t been able to eat earlier for fear of puking it all up. Now, as he teeters across the floor, he thinks maybe he should try and find something to snack on because a date with the toilet bowl seems inevitable at this point anyway.

Outside the kitchen is a dining room filled with people picking at the assortment of finger foods laid out on the table. Most of them are seniors in their final year of college like Baekhyun and Jongdae. He nods to Baro who is trying to chat up Amber in the corner. Jin and Ken are playing an aggressive game of beer pong against Kyung and Hyuna. Hani is making out with Seunghoon, completely blocking the chips and dip from an upset looking Dongjun. There are a ton of other people, people he only vaguely recognizes as being in other majors or in a lower year. He’s pretty sure that’s the music prodigy, Min Yoongi blushing next to a giggling and clingy Park Jimin on the couch. Hoseok, Jongin, Junhong and Jungkook are having some kind of dance off that is being unfairly judged by Taehyung and Yuna. Bomi and Eunji are on either side of Zitao, and the poor boy looks like he’s died and gone to heaven. His best friend, Sehun, is clapping like a seal at something Professor Lu is saying, nearly falling over until Professor Kim catches him. It’s the weirdest love triangle he’s ever seen. Baekhyun is pretty sure that stuff only exists in dramas, and yet, here it is, being played out in front of his very eyes. He will never, ever understand what those three have going on.

Baekhyun can’t see Jongdae anywhere, but that’s okay. It is fine if he’s alone at a party filled with teachers and people he’s only sort of acquainted with. He can probably go try to talk to Yixing and Professor ‘Call-Me-Kris’ Wu over by the pool table. It’s bound to be a little awkward, but it can’t be any worse than if he went and tried to start a conversation with Jackson and Namjoon where he’s bound to only understand like three words since they like to speak in English, and Baekhyun’s always been a hopeless student in that language. That doesn’t matter. As long as his cheap plastic cup doesn’t stay empty for more than a few minutes, and his ex-girlfriend stays out of his line of sight, Baekhyun will be totally okay.

Except that is the moment his world comes crashing down around him for the second time in three months.

Because while his heart is still in jagged, broken pieces that cut him with each breath, Kim Taeyeon seems perfectly happy. She’s as radiant as ever with her golden hair cut short and cute, held away from her face with a butterfly clip that makes something ache in Baekhyun’s chest when he sees it. He gave that clip to her almost two years ago for Christmas. She had seemed so happy when she had opened it and let him carefully place it in her hair, following the action with a sweet press of their lips together under the twinkling lights of a decorated tree in the park. And now, she’s here, looking just as happy without him by her side. Taeyeon laughs, running her hand down the arm of none other than Lee Donghae.

And it can’t be true.

There’s no way that his girlfriend dumped him for his mentor and vocal coach, the one guy he looked up to more than anyone else. Donghae has been looking after Baekhyun since Baekhyun was just a tiny little freshman, nervous and unprepared for college life four years ago. Donghae took him under his wing that first year, and even though he graduated two semesters later, he took a job in the music department and continued to watch over the younger boy. Donghae wouldn’t do that to him, not when he’s always known how much Baekhyun adored Taeyeon.

Then, as if simply to prove him wrong, Donghae grins softly and leans closer until he can place a gentle kiss against Taeyeon’s mouth. From an outsider’s perspective, it looks easy and practiced like it is something that they’ve done so many times it now comes as naturally as breathing. And why shouldn’t it be easy for them? It’s been three months since the breakup. Three months since Taeyeon probably started seeing Donghae. That is a long time in terms of dating. No wonder they’re so comfortable with each other already.

Baekhyun refuses to think for even a fleeting second that this might have been going on for more than three months. It almost makes his chest feel as if it’s caught in a vice, and all the air is being forced from his lungs. He chokes on his drink, and it stings, making his eyes water. It is the drink’s fault, definitely. He’s certainly not crying. Not here in public where he’s surrounded by basically everyone he’s met in the last four years.

Baekhyun feels like he’s drowning, the world moving in slow, torturous motion around him. Taeyeon is on her toes, grazing her pretty red lips over Donghae’s cheek, brown eyes sparkling like stars and laughter floating through the air like tinkling bells.

“Fuck,” Baekhyun hisses, grabbing the tall bottle of alcohol off the table in front of him. He doesn’t think as he tosses his head back and drinks directly from the bottle. He doesn’t think as he feels Taeyeon’s eyes land on him, pity and only the vaguest hint of guilt in her gaze.

He doesn’t think as he turns to his left and kisses whatever poor, unsuspecting soul has the misfortune to be standing near him. It’s a man. That much he’s sure of by the wide, toned shoulders his hands hold on to. The man is tall, towering over Baekhyun enough that he has to stand on his toes and simultaneously pull the person down in order to crash their lips together. Whoever it is smells good, and he tastes like peppermint schnapps instead of that shitty fancy beer Junmyeon keeps trying to get everyone to drink. The man has big hands that fall to Baekhyun’s waist after a hesitant second. Baekhyun groans into the kiss, pushing closer when the man’s fingers tighten around his hips.

Baekhyun’s a little too drunk to be able to enjoy this moment as much as he might have otherwise. His lips are tingling, but they’re also a little numb. He can feel the pressure of the man returning the kiss, but he can’t really feel the heat or the smooth slide of plush lips against his own. There is maybe a hint of tongue, he’s not exactly sure, but he wants more. Taeyeon is probably still watching, still feeling bad for Baekhyun because he’s a heartbroken loser, a single and wilting wallflower at a party, and honestly, he’d rather makeout with some random stranger than see that pitying look in her eyes.

His tongue flicks out, teasing over the lips gliding over his own. There’s a soft gasp, too quiet to hear over the chatter and music, but he can feel it. He can feel the gentle exhale blow across his damp mouth. He groans again, helpless and slowly losing himself in the kiss. It’s been a long time since he’s had someone so close. He’s tipsy and not exactly thinking straight, but he can’t bring himself to regret what he’s doing now.

The stranger pulls him even closer, bringing Baekhyun’s chest flat against his own. From somewhere across the room is a whistling cat-call. Jongdae is enthusiastically voicing his approval. Baekhyun flips him off blindly, not moving from the heat enveloping him from between the guy’s strong arms. There’s a hot tongue sliding into his mouth, licking into him with sure strokes, and Baekhyun’s knees feel a little weak.

Taeyeon was never this sure. Her kisses were always soft, delicate things. Cutesy and sweet. This kiss is hot, searing and leaves Baekhyun feeling even dizzier than before. He never knew he was into someone being so forceful, in control and sure of what they’re doing. This stranger doesn’t hold back as he sucks at Baekhyun’s mouth, fucking his tongue between Baekhyun’s lips in a way that is filthy and fantastic.

Baekhyun completely forgets why he began making out with a stranger in the first place. Kim Taeyeon? Who’s Kim Taeyeon? Who is Lee Donghae? In fact, who the hell is Byun Baekhyun? He doesn’t know and he doesn’t care as long fingers cup his ass through his tight jeans. He pants hotly, breathless and reeling as the man squeezes his ass in one large palm, holding Baekhyun so close he can feel the man’s erection pressed against his hip.

“Chanyeol, not to interrupt, but Yura’s waiting out front, dude,” someone says from off to the side. The bubble is burst, the moment lost. When the stranger - Chanyeol, apparently - steps away Baekhyun finally gets a good look at him. And he feels like he might pass out.

That is definitely the molten lava hot Professor Park that is beaming down at him.

Baekhyun is so fucked.

*****

“I don’t get it. Which part of all that is a problem?” Kyungsoo asks with furrowed brows as he settles on the couch. He scowls when he sinks unusually far into the cushion, and Jongdae cackles as Baekhyun’s cheeks burn.

Okay, maybe he did spend a little too much time sitting in that one spot, and maybe, Jongdae hadn’t been exaggerating about there being an indent from his ass.

He studiously ignores Jongdae’s amusement, huffing and crossing his arms petulantly. “The problem,” he begins, speaking slowly and articulating carefully to make sure both of his friends can understand, “is that I practically humped Professor Park’s leg while eating his face, drunk off my ass and in front of literally everyone we know. The very same Professor Park that teaches the one class I’m in danger of failing, and now he for sure hates me, which means I’ll be stuck here again next year while the rest of you all move on with your lives, leaving me to my misery and the constant torture of reliving my embarrassment every time I see that idiot’s face.”

Kyungsoo still looks eternally confused by the entire situation. “No, I heard all that the first eighty times you told us. What I don’t get is why you’re so upset?” Baekhyun, wide-eyed with impatience, is about to frantically reiterate all the very important reasons he’s just said, but Kyungsoo throws a couch pillow at his face, cutting him off before he can begin, and continues to talk. “Professor Park is hot as hell, and we saw you guys at the party. He looked just as into it as you were. And even if he was just going along with it because you were being a moody loser trying to show up your ex, he’s not going to hate you now. You’re being a drama queen. Park Chanyeol is a nice guy.”

Baekhyun wants to know why Kyungsoo’s on a first name basis with Professor Park. Why Kyungsoo’s usually blank face is tinted slightly pink and there’s a tiny, miniscule curl to the edge of his plush, heart shaped lips as he smiles down at his hands as if he’s thinking of something far away. This is all very suspicious. He’s not sure how he feels about Kyungsoo potentially crushing on the professor he made out with.

“It’s okay. I’ll be your drama king, and together we’ll live in a drama castle in a drama kingdom, and Kyungsoo won’t be allowed in,” Jongdae proclaims grandly as he climbs over the back of the couch and wraps himself around Baekhyun like a koala.

Baekhyun elbows him in the rib on principle, and then immediately curls into his side, soaking in the comfort of his best friend. Even two days later, he is reeling emotionally and mentally from the party. Seeing his ex-girlfriend and his mentor look so happy together hurt even worse than the hangover he had to deal with the next day. Add to that the embarrassment of locking lips with Park Chanyeol, and you are left with the perfect recipe to ruin Baekhyun’s life.

Okay. Maybe he is a drama queen.

Jongdae can be pushy at times, but Baekhyun knows deep down that his friend means well and is only trying to help. He is always there with a sturdy, boney shoulder to lean on when Baekhyun really needs him.

“Like I’d want to be a part of your trash kingdom anyway,” Kyungsoo grumbles. He stands up and stretches. “I have to get to class. Think about what I said, though. Chanyeol is a good guy. Try to get to know him before you completely write him off, Baek.”

Jongdae and Baekhyun share a confused look once Kyungsoo is out the door.

“Is it just me, or does it sound like our straight-laced, goody two shoes, golden boy Do Kyungsoo is attempting to convince you to hook up with your Professor again?”

Baekhyun shakes his head, confused.

*****

The thing is that Kyungsoo is right, and it stresses Baekhyun out even more.

Before the party, Baekhyun knew objectively speaking that Professor Park was hot. He’s tall, broad shouldered, toned in all the right ways, and he always wears pants that are well tailored to show off his long legs and tight little ass. His dark hair is normally falling in some form of sexily disheveled, and he looks good both in and out of his black framed glasses.

But, before the party, Baekhyun was too distracted in class by the streams of indecipherable English he was trying desperately to translate into something understandable to really appreciate the deep, smooth voice speaking or the soft, plush lips forming the words. He was so busy trying to learn enough to get through the semester with at least something passable for a grade that he hadn’t paid much attention to the professor teaching the lessons.

And now. Now Chanyeol is all Baekhyun can pay attention to. Kyungsoo said Chanyeol was a nice guy, and the more Baekhyun watches, the more he sees that Kyungsoo was telling the truth. Chanyeol takes his time to explain things thoroughly, but he manages to include a kind of light-heartedness that keeps the material interesting. He cracks good natured jokes at his own expense about his messy handwriting and his slightly clumsy limbs to keep the students in a good mood.

After only a couple of weeks of this Baekhyun misses the days when he could wallow on the couch in post-breakup misery because lusting after his professor is not working for him. Every little thing Chanyeol does suddenly seems very flirty and possibly even sexual, and it’s maddening.

Does Chanyeol need to have that thick marker between his lips, hanging out of his mouth obscenely while he searches for a passage in the textbook? Does he have to keep sending Baekhyun heated glances while reading erotic poetry? Is it on purpose when their fingers brush together as Chanyeol hands back graded papers, the touch lingering and sending electricity through Baekhyun’s bones?

He wonders if the other students can feel the tension between them. He wonders what they think is going on. There’s a group of at least sixteen guys and girls that have been very vocal about their interest in the professor, and it’s no secret that everyone in the department thinks he’s hot even if they’re not interested in him romantically. Hell, Baekhyun’s almost positive he’s overheard Professor Wu telling Professor Lu in the lunch line at the canteen that Chanyeol’s hair looks even sexier when it’s styled up off his forehead.

It’s thrilling to have Chanyeol’s attention directed at him. Baekhyun just wishes he knew if any of it was real. Is his professor actually blatantly flirting with him, or is Baekhyun projecting his feelings? Maybe he’s blown the whole situation out of proportion. Chanyeol made out with him once, that doesn’t mean he wants anything more from Baekhyun. Besides, student and teacher relationships were against the rules. It would never work. Right?

*****

Baekhyun gets the answers to just about all of his questions quite unexpectedly.

Jongdae is back at the apartment, sick and bed ridden. Before he fell asleep earlier, he asked Baekhyun to drop off his paper before the deadline today, and here Baekhyun is at ten at night, wandering the eerily vacant halls of the literature building in a fruitless attempt to find Professor Kwon’s classroom. He has vague suspicions that Jongdae sent him to the wrong building.

He’s side-tracked from his quest by a deep voice calling out to him as he walks by a familiar doorway.

“This is a pleasant surprise. Come here often?” Chanyeol asks, smirking and standing casually with his hands shoved in his pockets. He’s so insufferably hot. Baekhyun blushes, ignoring the way his heart flips at the playful tone, and rolls his eyes.

“More often than I want.”

Chanyeol clutches his chest in mock hurt. “Ouch. And here I hoped seeing me was something you enjoyed. I certainly look forward it.”

Impossibly, Baekhyun feels his face flush even darker. His hopes are already raising sky high with just a few sweet words from Chanyeol’s lips, and he knows it’s dumb, but he can’t help the excitement that starts to churn in his stomach, egging him on.

“I bet you say that to all the pretty boys,” he says, aiming for a joke and coming off with more seriousness than he’s comfortable with. Chanyeol’s grin turns serious, his eyes sparkling darkly as he catches Baekhyun’s sleeve and pulls him over the threshold into the classroom. The door shuts behind them with a soft click.

Alone now, Chanyeol leans close, hands trailing down to Baekhyun’s hips without hesitation and lips hovering against the shell of Baekhyun’s ear as he replies. “There’s only you.” He leaves a hot trail against Baekhyun’s earlobe, the side of his neck, his cheek, and Baekhyun’s nearly breathless with anticipation as Chanyeol’s mouth slips closer to his own. After an endless moment of nothing but the feeling of Chanyeol soft exhale against his face, Baekhyun’s eyes snap open. Chanyeol is so close, too close. “Just you, Baekhyun.”

When they kiss, it’s fast and deep. Chanyeol takes charge just like he did at the party, but it’s so much better now. There’s no alcohol to dull the taste of Chanyeol, sweet and with slight hints of coffee. Baekhyun can smell the faded remnants of Chanyeol’s cologne, subtle and pleasant and mixed just a little bit with the natural scent of his skin after a long day. It’s manly and intoxicating, and Baekhyun has the desire to taste the smooth hollow at the base of Chanyeol’s neck, to feel the pulse flutter against his tongue as he sucks at the pale column of Chanyeol’s throat.

Chanyeol groans against him. Quickly, he walks them back until Baekhyun is pressed against the windows, the cool glass chilling him even through the fabric of his sweater. Chanyeol takes the opportunity to pull him closer, standing between Baekhyun’s spread legs and running his hands up under Baekhyun’s shirt. He ducks down to bite at Baekhyun’s skin. Over his shoulder, Baekhyun can see the desk he normally sits at during class, and it causes real life to come crashing back to him.

“Wait. Stop. We can’t do this,” he forces out even as he hates himself for it. He can’t believe he’s about to throw away what he’s been fantasizing about for weeks, but it’s for the best. He’s not going to let his hormones be the cause of Chanyeol losing his job.

For the first time Chanyeol looks uncertain. “Are we going to fast?”

“It’s against the rules! Don’t you care that you could be fired?” Baekhyun looks away, blushing again as he swallows. “I like you a lot, but the rules-”

“Baekhyun,” Chanyeol says with a soft laugh, smoothing his thumb over Baekhyun’s rosy cheek. “Heechul changed the rules last year when Luhan and Minseok talked to him about their interest in Sehun. It’s not exactly something the school wants to encourage, but relationships between teachers and students aren’t forbidden anymore as long as all parties involved are legally consenting adults entering the arrangement of their own freewill. And the student needs to be graded by a third party individual, of course.” He kisses the tip of Baekhyun’s nose and smiles down at him. “But I think it’s sweet that you like me a lot.”

“Stupid,” Baekhyun hisses, lightly punching Chanyeol in embarrassment even as he pulls him down to kiss him again. There’s a warmth in his chest that is just as much happiness as it is arousal. He can feel Chanyeol’s hardness pressing against his leg after a few moments, and he grins into the kiss smugly as he reaches a hand between them to trace the rigid outline of it. He’s unaccountably proud because he did that. He made Chanyeol hard. It’s a heady feeling to know he has the power to turn Chanyeol on.

They make quick work of their clothes. Baekhyun’s sweater lands somewhere across the room while his pants and underwear and kicked off to the side with his shoes and socks. Chanyeol’s white button down shirt is open, his sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His jeans are unbuttoned and pulled down just far enough for Baekhyun’s quick fingers to pull his leaking cock out, jerking it teasingly as Chanyeol stretches him open with three fingers with lube from a drawer in Chanyeol’s desk that Baekhyun is going to have to think about more later instead of now as Chanyeol tongue fucks his mouth. It’s filthy and so hot that the windows are fogging up behind them.

“Come on, come on,” Baekhyun urges when he feels like he can’t possibly wait any longer. He hastily pushes Chanyeol’s hand away and turns, pressing his cheek against the glass and presenting himself for Chanyeol’s hungry stare. “Fuck me, Chanyeol. Please.”

“Oh god, you’re going to be the death of me,” Chanyeol mutters with a broken gasp as he pushes in. Baekhyun gasps, wet and hot, and tries to push back for more.

The pace Chanyeol sets changes. Shallow, fast thrusts turn to the deep, slow grind of hips, back and forth in a vicious circle until Baekhyun is trembling and so, so close that he can’t stop begging for release. Chanyeol’s damp chest is pressed flat against his back, the sides of his open shirt draping over and tickling Baekhyun’s ribs with each thrust.

“Please,” he begs, broken and needy, and Chanyeol’s large hand wraps around his length, tugging in time with his thrusts. It only takes a few moments and the flick of his wrist to have Baekhyun shooting off ropes of his release across the glass.

“Oh fuck,” Chanyeol hisses, slamming forward and holding so tightly to Baekhyun’s hips that he’s sure there will be bruises tomorrow. He slumps, boneless, across Baekhyun as they both come down and catch their breath.

Chanyeol places a surprisingly chaste kiss against the back of Baekhyun’s neck and wraps his arms around Baekhyun’s waist, their sweat slicked skin sliding together.

“Hey, Baekhyun?”

“Hmm?” he responds, tired and still feeling the afterglow.

Chanyeol squirms and maneuvers them around until he can lace their fingers together. Something fluttery and hopeful unfurls in Baekhyun’s chest.

“I like you a lot, too, in case you couldn’t tell. I mean, I’ve been really obvious about it, I thought, but I still wanted to say it to make sure we start this without any misunderstandings.”

Baekhyun snorts out a laugh to hide the sheer joy he feels vibrating under his skin. “What makes you think I want to start anything with you, Professor Park?”

Chanyeol’s eyes glitter with mischief, the side of his mouth quirked up cockily. “I guess I’ll have to convince you that I’m boyfriend material.”

“Yeah,” Baekhyun replies, breathless and giddy. “Yeah, I guess you will.”
