Quick Babbling
So I watched the movie and could not, at first, figure out why something balked at Uhura saying she knew several dialects of Romulan.
Because no one had seen a Romulan for about another 10 years if I remember right. They're isolationists. Yes, there was the Earth-Romulan War but no one knew anything about them.
Then it occurred to me; that's probably the source of all the tiny changes in Trek universe; the Vulcans would have to have fessed up to sharing common ancestry and be just that little bit more open to other cultures for it. You know. Since the survivors of the Kelvin were probably flailing about being attacked by tattoed Vulcans.
Because I swear, I was flat out floored by tiny Vulcans calling anyone's mother a whore. I couldn't believe they knew the word. But if Vulcan had more Earth influences, had had to be more open, it's. More possible.
