Somehow, he's a boy older before his age and probably sees the reason behind Marcus' sacrifice (beyond Marcus' personal reasons of course). I think he would want that sacrifice not to be for nothing..

I'm so glad it "pleased" you. The scene when Marcus says he gives his heart and Kyle's and his gazes lock is such a sad one, that I needed to give them this. Although there's no real hope for a better ending, I needed to give Kyle this reasoning and some happy times.....
