We're on a long weekend at Whitby as a belated Wedding Anniversary trip. Having a marvellous time visiting the Abbey, walking the narrow streets looking at the architecture and jet jewellery shops and eating too much. This afternoon was topped off very nicely with a knickerbockerglory each on the prom whilst watching the tide come in ( Read more... )

Whitby is high on my to-visit list, although I might have to go there off season!
I really want a KBG now. Dammit.

Do it!! We're only here for a long weekend and to be honest, I think that's about the right length of time. I don't think I'd want to do a week as the town is a bit mad, but in the sunshine, it's lovely.

KBGs are a part of my childhood as my grandparents lived in an old fashioned seaside town in Kent with proper ice-cream parlours. It's not often you can find somewhere to make you one (with jelly and fruit cocktail!!)

Ooooh, where in Kent?
When I was growing up in Tonbridge there was this little cafe (probably a crappy chain one, I've no idea) called Billy Bunters' & the dilemma was always the KBG vs. the Icecream Derby (er, a donut with icecream). Simple pleasures!

I grew up in a village called Wingham which is between Canterbury and Sandwich, and my garndparents lived in Deal just north of Dover.

I love Deal because it never really got spoilt by mass tourism like the Thanet seaside towns. It's still wonderfully old-fashioned (especially its ice-cream parlour)!

Love the gun stuck through the icecreeam instead of a cocktail stick ;)

Seriously, sounds like a lovely weekend, and I am hoping OH comes good on his promise to make cheesecake tonight or I may have to lick the screen!

I only realised there was bizarre gun/icecream action in the photo when I viewed this after posting! It was the only photo I took though and the knickerbockerglory's magnificence had to be recognised ;)

Hope you get your cheesecake tonight if only to save your screen....

The Magpie is awesome. Bothams tea rooms in Whitby are a bit special too!

Also, have you found the amazing second hand book shop (next to The Dolphin pub)?
