We're on a long weekend at Whitby as a belated Wedding Anniversary trip. Having a marvellous time visiting the Abbey, walking the narrow streets looking at the architecture and jet jewellery shops and eating too much. This afternoon was topped off very nicely with a knickerbockerglory each on the prom whilst watching the tide come in

KBGs are a part of my childhood as my grandparents lived in an old fashioned seaside town in Kent with proper ice-cream parlours. It's not often you can find somewhere to make you one (with jelly and fruit cocktail!!)

When I was growing up in Tonbridge there was this little cafe (probably a crappy chain one, I've no idea) called Billy Bunters' & the dilemma was always the KBG vs. the Icecream Derby (er, a donut with icecream). Simple pleasures!

I love Deal because it never really got spoilt by mass tourism like the Thanet seaside towns. It's still wonderfully old-fashioned (especially its ice-cream parlour)!

The Magpie is awesome. Bothams tea rooms in Whitby are a bit special too!
